Why Tropical North Queensland?
  • A First Choice Holiday.
  • A Holiday Experience that will change your life.
  • A Holiday Recipe that's a true Tonic!
Koalas Be a Tourist. Cruise the Great Barrier Reef or drive one of the 10 most famous drives in Australia. Travel on the train or skyrail to Kuranda and experience the beauty made available to you by the foresight of courageous engineering early in the century and the entrepreneurial talents of this decade. Or maybe just walk along a deserted beach where the reef meets the rainforest. Visit crocodile farms and crater lakes or travel on "The Last Great Train Ride".
Skydiving Be a Sport. If you like watersports you'll love the Tropics where year long temperatures make diving and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef just so enticing. Windsurfing and sailing from the many beaches and islands, with estuary and reef fishing in exciting places and, at dawn, ballooning on the Tablelands. For the adventure seekers - ride the white water rapids or go skydiving. Anything you want to do in adventurous sport is available.
Bushwalking Be a Bushwalker. With World Heritage listed rainforest and National Parks all over North Queensland you can take your pick. On shady paths through deepest rainforest or mountain climbing at Mount Bartle Frere. See the myriad wildlife. With over 320 species of birdlife in the area, every step is a new adventure.
Dining Wining and Dining. North Queensland offers subtle flavours and famous seafood in small boutique restaurants and world famous buffets like "Charlies". All over North Queensland you will find dining an experience; go to Yungaburra on Saturday night and enjoy dining in an olde worlde atmosphere at the Lake Eacham Hotel. Whatever you want to indulge in is available and for the budget conscious you can buy your own local produce from Rusty's Markets every weekend starting on Fridays.
Go shopping for fashionable designer wear or tropical beach wear. Paintings by local artists, gems and opals. Boutiques and large shopping malls, all airconditioned for your comfort. Mum, Dad and the kids are all catered for and indulgent grandmothers will have a ball! There are craft shops and markets every weekend in Cairns and Port Douglas.
Beach Beaches on deserted coastlines or coral cays to explore. Cairns doesn't have a beach but there's a picturesque Esplanade where the whole world meets. Both north and south of the City you can wake to the sounds of a tropical sunrise as the waves roll on to the beaches. The stinger season is October to April but swim on the safety netted beaches and you're perfectly safe. But don't forget the sunblock as the sunshine is endless.
Aboriginal painting Cultural Events and Places. North Queensland has a local Aboriginal culture of over 40,000 years and you could say we've got plenty to talk about! But join us at the Tjapukai theme park and experience a world class "Corroboree" performance of "The Dreamtime" and Aboriginal culture where we'll share the story in dance and music. Go to rock caves where ancient Aboriginal paintings are displayed. Buy a didjeridoo and entertain the folks back home.
Crocodile And when you're in the Tropics shouldn't you take time to meet the locals? The only locals known to bite around here are the crocs (even the sharks don't seem to bother). The rest of us are a mixed friendly bunch just waiting to say G'day!
